Telstra launches IPX offering
Australia-based carrier services operation, Telstra Global, this week introduced an IP exchange (IPX) service to better help operators introduce enhanced roaming and richer mobile interconnect offerings.
Global IPX is a standards-based platform geared up for giving operators leverage over their LTE investments and the opportunity to build a mobile ecosystem by reducing the time to market and cost involved in the roll-out of new offerings.
In terms of interconnect, it gives operators a single channel to grow their business beyond their own network, and offers a platform to create value added services such as mobile gaming and video streaming delivered with a consistent customer experience to end users. On the other hand, operators can offer tailored roaming packages to their users and better manage the customer experience while roaming across global networks, alongside improved traffic management and billing authentication.
The IPX is provided over Telstra Global’s a scalable and managed IP MPLS core network.
The IP eXchange (IPX)
IPX provides a gateway to a global managed IP network supporting end-to-end QoS and the principle of cascading interconnect payments, where each party in the transit chain is responsible for the performance of the next party. The IPX is not intended to replace or compete with the internet but to offer an alternative with guaranteed QoS.
Telstra Global’s director of products and marketing, Nathan Bell said end users’ data demands have become increasingly sophisticated and mobile operators are uniquely placed to take advantage of the customer drivers behind this demand.
“IPX provides mobile operators with the opportunity to innovate beyond the network by taking advantage of increased data usage, moving up the value chain by offering feature rich applications and services delivered through a high quality end user experience which customers are demanding whether at home or abroad”.
